If you are experiences issues with your control pad input, please close down the game and restart the Steam client. When you next launch the game the correct controller bindings will be picked up.
If you still have issues then try the following steps:
1. Select "Controller Layout"
2. In the window that appears select the current layout
3. From the "Recommended" section, select the "Official Configuration for No Man's Sky" for your controller
4. Select "APPLY LAYOUT"
5. Back out of the layout and launch No Man's Sky
